Start with a built-in font, not an upload
Select a text layer, open Typography, compare the specimens in the searchable font list and click a font to apply it directly.
- Select a text layer and open the Typography font-family dropdown.
- Search families and compare their inline specimens without downloading every font.
- Click a family or use arrow keys and Enter to apply it.
- Inspect the actual text on the canvas; use Undo if another font is more suitable.
Expected result: A successful choice is one undoable font change. Failed loading leaves the previous font unchanged.
Each catalog entry includes a pre-generated WebP specimen, at most 5 KB. Browsing lazy-loads small preview images, not complete font files. Uploaded and Brand fonts have locally generated specimens. Device choices render locally; installed-font discovery remains optional and permission-based.
Searching does not apply a font. Click a result or use the arrow keys and Enter to load and apply only that choice. There is no separate Apply step. The shuffle action also applies one different font. Up to five applied catalog or device-default choices are remembered in this browser; installed-font discovery is not persisted.
Built-in remote fonts require network access when selected and not cached. Uploaded fonts travel in .kruti; device fonts are not embedded and may fall back elsewhere. Static specimens demonstrate appearance, not every character. Inspect the actual canvas text for script coverage and use Undo to restore the previous font.
Use installed fonts without uploading them
In a supported desktop browser, press Browse device fonts in Typography and explicitly allow access. Other browsers still offer device defaults, catalog fonts and uploads.
- Select a text layer and open Typography.
- Press the monitor icon, Browse device fonts (permission required), if available.
- Allow permission, then choose a family under Installed on this device to apply it directly.
- Inspect the canvas. Keep a PNG or JPEG export when the exact appearance must travel to another device.
Expected result: The text uses a local font without downloading, copying or embedding its file. Other browsers or devices may use a fallback.
Installed-font discovery requires a secure context and browser support for Local Font Access, primarily desktop Chromium browsers. Kruti does not request this permission automatically. Denying access does not change your artwork or prevent other font choices. Device defaults are generic or suggested system choices, not a verified list of installed families.
Kruti reads names and styles, not font-file bytes. The discovered list stays in memory for the current browser session; it is not uploaded or saved to browser storage. A project retains only the selected font name/reference. Reopening may use the locally installed face or a fallback; .kruti does not carry that device font to another browser. Explicit font-file uploads and Lipi imports remain separate assets with their existing embedding behavior.
How do I use phrase collections or save my own phrases?
Choose a collection in Typography for built-in phrases. Open My phrases, enter one phrase per line and leave the field to save your local collection.
- Select a text layer and open Typography.
- Choose a collection and use Previous phrase, Next phrase or Random phrase to replace the words deliberately.
- Open My phrases, enter one phrase per line, and click or tab outside the field to save.
- Choose My phrases in the collection menu; clear the textarea and leave it to remove your collection.
Expected result: Your personal collection is available in this browser. Phrase browsing changes words; New look, same words changes styling instead.
The built-in catalog contains 216 phrases. My phrases keeps up to 500 unique lines in browser-local storage, not a cloud account. Keep an independent copy before clearing site storage or moving devices.
New looks and checked Keep settings
Press New look, same words to vary styling. Checked Keep boxes preserve their named choices during that action.
- Select a text layer and enter the words you want to keep.
- Check Keep font, Keep colors or Keep text shape for choices that must stay unchanged.
- Press the wand button, New look, same words, at the top right.
- Use Undo to restore the previous look; use an individual shuffle only when you want to change that specific setting.
Expected result: The text and emoji stay the same; only unlocked styling varies.
Text properties includes phrase collections and a New look, same words action. The new-look button stays in its top-right slot across text appearance tabs, with Keep settings beneath it; phrase browsing appears in Typography. The words and emoji remain unchanged while visual styling varies.
Checked means keep, not randomize: Keep font preserves the typeface choice, weight and italic setting; Keep colors preserves the fill and colors; Keep text shape preserves its mode and shaping parameters. These locks apply to the combined new-look action. Font size and other unlocked appearance settings can still vary.
An individual shuffle changes only its named setting. Font shuffle applies its choice directly; use Undo to revert. Numeric shuffles use the control bounds and step. Choosing a color swatch preserves the existing texture; Randomize fill deliberately changes the paint style.
Use Lipi or upload a licensed font when needed
Upload a licensed font in Assets, or import its direct Lipi file URL in Fonts. Then choose its specimen in Typography to apply it.
- Obtain a licensed TTF, OTF, WOFF or WOFF2 file no larger than 10 MB, optionally from Lipi.
- Open Assets > Fonts and upload the local file, or import its direct Lipi URL.
- In Browse, apply the font to selected text or add new text with the font when no text is selected. Click its thumbnail to inspect a larger specimen.
- Inspect the canvas and download .kruti to keep the embedded font with the document.
Expected result: The selected text uses the uploaded font, which travels inside the editable original.
Lipi is our Unicode multilingual font platform. Explore fonts in multiple languages, inspect specimens and find another typeface for your Kruti artwork using the Lipi link below.
Assets stores reusable local fonts and images. Uploading there does not edit the canvas. Browse applies or inserts an asset; Manage contains renaming, removal and kit defaults. Applying a Brand font embeds an independent project-owned copy as one undoable change. Images also offers direct device uploads into the current project without saving to the reusable library.
Check the license for your use, including commercial output and redistribution inside editable files. Removing a shared font does not remove its copies from existing projects. A downloadable font is not automatically licensed for every purpose.
Choose a brand font for future text
Create or select a Brand Assets kit, include its font and star Default font for new text.
- Upload a licensed local font in Brand Assets > Fonts.
- Switch to Manage, create or select a named brand kit and include the font using its membership checkbox.
- Press the star beside the font to make it the kit default.
- Add a new text layer; existing text stays unchanged unless you explicitly apply a font to it.
Expected result: New text uses the selected kit font, embedded independently into its project. Changing kits does not restyle existing artwork.
Font URL imports accept direct HTTPS font files only from lipi.rvanveshana.com, not other hosts, webpages or CSS links. Lipi must allow cross-origin access with an Access-Control-Allow-Origin response header. A blocked request may mean CORS, connectivity or a redirect; the browser does not reliably distinguish these causes. Read the error notice, or download the font and upload it locally. Imported fonts are stored as reusable embedded assets, not live URL dependencies.
Brand kit selection is remembered in this browser. Choose All assets to clear kit defaults. Files removed from Brand Assets are unavailable for future selection, while existing projects retain their embedded copies.
How do I make wave, arc or circle text?
Select a text layer, open Shape and choose a mode. Bend, Band, Angle or Waves appears only when the chosen shape uses it.
- Enter a short heading and select its text layer.
- Open Shape and choose Wave, Arc or Circle; try the same controls below.
- Adjust Bend or Band, then Angle or Waves when available.
- Switch to Straight to remove the shaping, or use Undo to restore the previous settings.
Expected result: The same editable words follow the selected shape; changing shape does not turn the layer into a photo.
The Shape tab offers five modes. Straight keeps a conventional text block. Angled tilts the shaped content; Wave bends it rhythmically; Arc bows it; Circle wraps it into a circular composition. Bend, angle and wave-count controls refine the selected mode.
The text stays editable. Kruti first shapes the complete text with the browser's native text engine, then warps the rendered surface, preserving script joins instead of rotating isolated code points.
Use short headings for strong bends and circles. Keep paragraphs straight, and inspect curved text carefully for tight counters, overlaps or script-specific readability. Fit text frame is available for straight text.
Wrap text or scale its font size on the canvas
In Typography, choose Wrap text to resize the frame without changing font size, or Scale text to resize the frame and font together.
- Select a text layer and open Typography.
- Set the single Font size control for a precise size.
- Choose Wrap text and drag a side grip to change wrapping or a corner grip to change both frame dimensions.
- Choose Scale text and drag any grip to enlarge or reduce the lettering proportionally.
Expected result: Wrap handles follow the text frame; Scale handles fit the visible lettering. Wrapping preserves font size; scaling updates Font size proportionally. Switching modes does not move the text, and a finished drag is one undoable change.
Canvas resize is a workspace tool setting, not an extra font size or a saved text-layer property. Changing the mode alone does not edit the document. Eight grips resize from any edge or corner, keeping the opposite anchor fixed even on rotated objects. Wrap preserves font size; Scale changes the frame and font proportionally. Shift constrains proportions in Wrap mode.
Arrange width and height describe the text frame, not the font size. Use Typography for lettering size and Arrange for exact frame dimensions.
Size, alignment, direction and spacing
Typography contains Font size, alignment and Direction. Expand Spacing and weight for weight, leading, word gap and letter gap.
- Select the text layer and set Font size and alignment in Typography.
- Choose the Wrap text icon when the canvas handle should change wrapping rather than font size.
- Press the Spacing and weight sliders icon and adjust Leading, Word gap and Letter gap in small steps.
- Choose Automatic, Left-to-right or Right-to-left using the direction icons and inspect numbers and punctuation.
Expected result: The text reflows within its frame using the same settings for preview and export.
Set font size, weight, italic style, alignment and writing direction for each text layer in Typography. Automatic direction resolves from the text, not the page language. Left-to-right or right-to-left controls reading direction; the alignment buttons independently control physical placement.
Spacing and weight separates line height, word gap and letter gap. Word spacing adjusts gaps between words; letter spacing changes tracking. Use small adjustments and check joined scripts before increasing tracking.
The same spacing settings are used for preview, measurement and export. If a heading wraps unexpectedly, consider its frame width and spacing together rather than only reducing size.
Apply calligraphy, sketch, hollow, glow or 3D styles
Select text, open Styles and effects and choose a style. It applies directly to the canvas without a preview dialog or separate Apply step.
- Select a text layer and open the sparkles tab, Styles and effects.
- Choose Shaded silver, Calligraphy, Scratchy brush, Dry brush, Pencil sketch, Hollow, Neon glow, 3D raised or Playful letters.
- Expand Calligraphic nib, Glow, 3D depth or Outside strokes to adjust width, angle, colors, radius, depth or stroke amount.
- Use Undo to restore the previous complete style, or Reset text effects to remove the finish.
Expected result: The words, position and editable text layer remain intact. Each completed preset selection is one undoable change.
Every preset preserves the selected font, uploaded font asset, weight and italic setting. Calligraphy sweeps the already-shaped glyph image along an angled broad nib to add directional thickness; Nib width and Nib angle control that mathematical treatment. It works on the current Kannada or other script font without replacing it or breaking native joins. It is a broad-pen finish, not a reconstruction of handwritten letterforms; the chosen font must still support the script.
Outside strokes adds a calligraphy swash, brush streaks or sketch edges around the lettering. These are seeded decorations, not extra text characters. Switching stroke kinds preserves color, amount and pattern. Disabling nib, glow, depth, strokes or character rotation retains their settings for re-enabling and project reopening. Amount zero adds no outside strokes. Hollow lettering removes the fill while retaining the separate solid outline.
PNG and JPEG use the same renderer as the canvas. SVG retains simple hollow lettering as text, but embeds active calligraphic nib, glow, depth, outside-stroke and rotated-character layers as images. Keep .kruti for fully editable effects.
Rotate individual characters without changing the words
In Styles and effects, expand Character angles and enable Rotate characters. Set All angles, alternate them, or select one character to change only This angle.
- Select text and open Styles and effects > Character angles.
- Enable Rotate characters and adjust All angles; enable Alternate angles for alternating tilts.
- Choose a character in the Character menu and adjust This angle for an individual override.
- Use Reset individual character angles to return to the shared angle, or disable Rotate characters to restore normal text.
Expected result: The source text stays editable while the chosen units rotate around their own centers.
The character menu uses Unicode grapheme units in every language, not whole non-Latin words. Combining vowel marks, emoji sequences and virama-linked Indic conjuncts stay together. Kannada words therefore expose their separate letters or conjuncts. The menu addresses the first 512 units; the shared angle applies across the complete visible text.
Use modest angles on short headings. Rotating separate units can interrupt connections between neighboring letters; Shape bends the complete lettering when those connections must stay intact. Character rotation is separate from Arrange rotation, which turns the whole layer.
Fill, outline, shadow and arrangement
Open Fill for color, gradients or texture; use Outline and Shadow for separate solid-color edge and separation effects.
- Select the text layer and choose a readable Fill.
- Choose a Texture and set Density and base ink. Open Texture finish to choose contrast, a custom mark color or cutout, then adjust Strength and optional Relief depth and Light angle.
- Open Outline to set its color and Width, or Shadow to set color, Blur, X and Y.
- Use Arrange for position, frame size, rotation and opacity; export a test to inspect the edges.
Expected result: The effects remain editable properties of the same text layer.
Fill supports a solid color, a two-color gradient and seeded spray, grain, dots, hatch, scribble, scratched, rubbed-ink or worn-print textures. Scratched, Rubbed ink and Worn print remove ink to reveal the artwork behind the words. Adjust Density, Texture size and Ink opacity, or use Shuffle texture pattern to change only the marks. Other textures offer Base ink. The stored pattern stays stable across reopening and export.
Outline adds an edge; Shadow adds separation with color, blur and offsets. Outlines and shadows stay solid. Use the persistent selected-layer toolbar to duplicate, lock, reorder or delete text without opening Arrange. Arrange controls frame position, rotation and opacity.
